The ULFA(I) rebels camping at an undisclosed dense jungle celebrated Rongali Bihu recently amid the three decade old armed struggle for a sovereign Assam.
The video the outfits sent to Assam Times has a glimpse of the much-vaunted Rongali Bihu celebration inside their camp in full view of their military head Paresh Baruah.
With drum on their shoulders, cymbals and other traditional Assamese instruments in their hands, the rebels performed Bihu huchori with the songs of liberation in their lips.
Dressed in traditional attire, the lady cadres and leaders could not resist the temptation and started dancing in the huchori where their children kept watching the festival.
“After all they are our youths. They have a goal to liberate Assam which is not possible within the ambit of the Constitution. They have been doing an armed struggle. But why they would stop celebrating the Bihu?,” said Bulbul Baruah of Sivasagar when he talked to Assam Times.
Biju Changmai, a former ULFA rebel said,”there is nothing new in this since they celebrate the Bihu which is an occasion to upkeep the age old Assamese culture and tradition. Sir, the uncompromising being in this world never forgets us to celebrate Bohag Bihu and Magh Bihu.”
“Today we are talking to cultural probity. The person who is dead opposed to the attempt to the aggression of the Hindi culture is bound to keep up the Assamese culture. I still remember how he wants to maintain the probity of the Assamese culture,” said the former ULFA rebel.
