PM arriving in Nagaon today

On the eve of the PM's arrival in Nagaon city, no stone has been left unturned to ensure foolproof security arrangements by the district administration. The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will address a public meeting at Nehrubali today at 2 pm on his way back to Guwahati from Jorhat. The Prime Minister will today at 12.00 pm lay the foundation of a new medical college in Assam- Jorhat Medical College.The district authority of Nagaon today announces 'local holiday' for PM's arrival in the city. A team of Doordarshon tv from New Delhi has already arrived in the city to telecast the live programme of Dr Singh's visit to Nagaon.The Minister of state Forest and Tourism, Rockibull Hussain confirms that the public meeting will be attended by not less than 50,000 people. A number of C C camera has been set up in and around the Nehrubali meeting ground as part of the security measures by the district administration.

A local farmer in Raha rescued a python weighing 10 kg and measuring 8 feet on Friday much to the delight of the animal activists in the entire area. Local residents told Assam Times that the farmer caught the python at Dighaldori village after he spotted it near a water body in the morning hours. Then he tried to save it reptile and trapped it with the help of a fishing tool made of bamboo. Then he informed it to the local police station and forest officials who took the reptile in their custody. Various organizations and nature lovers have appreciated the farmer for saving the python.

Yet another dowry-related death sends no less shock and anger in Nagaon district where police have drawn flak for failure.The incident took place in Bhoraguri village in Puranigudam where a woman was allegedly killed by her in laws on Wednesday night. Police in Raha are looking for the miscreants who stole several computers from a school on Sunday night. The search started this morning when Jongal Bolohugarh High School authorities lodged a complaint with the police.The miscreants broke the doors of the school and lifted several computers on Sunday night. The computers were received a few years back under the Rajiv Gandhi Computer Literacy Programme. 
The 12 hour Tiwa bandh ended paralyzing normal life on Monday. Called by the All Tiwa Students Union along with five other organizations, the bandh was by and large peaceful in Raha and its adjoining areas Dharamtul, Ahatguri, Barapujia, Phulaguri, and Demow.Roads remained deserted. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and officers remained closed for the day following the band call bandh demanding Sixth Schedule status to the Tiwa-dominated areas.  
Barring a few stray incidents, the 12 hour central Assam bandh passed off peacefully on Friday.
