Stress on child protection
The state child protection day was celebrated at Anthaigwlao Chandrapara in Kokrajhar district on Saturday along with rest of the state.
It was organized by Nedan foundation; an organization based in Kokrajhar celebrated the day aiming to promote the wellbeing of children and to uplift their social rights among society with a range of fun filled activities like games, dance and made it special for children.
Prafulla Chandra Barman, additional deputy commissioner, Kokrajhar chaired the programme and Ratnadeep Bhatacharjee, Secretary, district legal service authority, Kokrajhar graced as guest on the occasion.
Digambar Narzary, chairperson of Nedan foundation shared the objective of the programme keeping protection of children as prime focus. He said education is the biggest/ strongest weapon that can tackle all the issues of society.
‘All our children need to go to school and for those parents have greater responsibility to send their children to school’. He also spoke about ‘child line 1098’, the 24 hours service available for children to help them in situations of emergency. And also about the launching of “One Stop Centre” at Kokrajhar by Social welfare department and Nedan as implementing partner for women and children who need immediate care and support in case emergencies.
Barman spoke about various problems faced by children like child labour, child marriage, drop-outs and child trafficking. He mentioned the presence of various civil society organizations working towards preventing these atrocities and also the existence of district administrations and duty bearers who are collectively rendering services towards child protection.
Bhatacharjee said the problems children are facing and the mechanisms that need to be addressed for their protection. There are existing Acts and Laws for child protection but people are not aware about it and therefore awareness should be build among the mass about the same. He requested everyone’s concern to work collectively towards child protection as they are the future of our society.
It provided a platform for children to perform cultural dance, speech and participate in various games conducted on this event. The programme was concluded with prize distribution and lunch.
