Thousands throng in Makhibaha Sabha Mahotsav

Thousands of devotees along with their well-wishers throng in Makhibaha Sabha Mahotsav, a century old socio-cultural & religious festival of northeast India, which was kicked-off last Sunday (26 February 2017). Held in six hundred years old village under Nalbari district in Assam, the festival will continue for nine days.

Organized annually by Makhibaha village-development committee at Harimandir premises, the unique fiesta witnesses various programs including rituals, cultural shows, public discourses etc along with brisk business activities. Each and every household of the large village contribute for the fair that gives them an opportunity to showcase their hospitality to guests.

Eminent Assamese author Dr Lakshminandan Bora inaugurated the festival after a spectacular cultural procession. The Saraswati and Sahitya Academy awardee Dr Bora appreciated the villagers for maintaining the spirit of Sabha Mahotsav and commented that the festivals help the society to grow with affection to each others.

Former Asom Sahitya Sabha president Padmashree Dr Bora also remembered few great personalities of Makhibaha locality and opined that the historic village has contributed immensely for the mainstream Assamese society since time immemorial.

The inauguration ceremony was also graced by Pratidin Time news channel editor Nitumani Saikia, Guwahati Press Club secretary Nava Thakuria, Gramonnyan president Harish Bhattacharya, active social workers and distinguished business community leaders.

It may be noted that Makhibaha is a confederation of villages giving shelter to different communities. The agricultural based village is surrounded by Bhojkuchi, Pakhura, Jalkhana Bhathuakhana, Nannatari, Bali, Haribhanga revenue villages.

The populous village is around 20 kilometer west of Nalbari district headquarter and around 70 km away from the State capital, Dispur. Its nearest railway station is Tihu (3.5 km away) and airfield is Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi international airport at the outskirt of Guwahati.

The Sabha Mahotsav will come to an end by 6 March, where few closing day programs are on the card. The annual festival creates brotherhood among the people helping them to live happily in the locality and also go to their professional activities with all positive energy for the days to come.

The body of a tiger was discovered in the Horonbali Chapori area of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, located in Assam’s Biswanath district, on Monday.
