Caught in a barrage of criticism a day after the examination bungling, education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is not at all interested to continue the portfolio.
Addressing a press conference in Dispur on Tuesday, Sarma said he would request the chief minister to relieve him of the portfolio saying that he does not want the students to bear the brunt of his conflict with a leading media baron.
He strongly denied the allegations of any leakage of HSLC question papers on Monday but in the same breath he said that in a bid to clear the doubts SEBA will hold the examination again.
On Monday a few examination centres claimed to have received Assamese and Social Science question papers instead of Mathematics triggering a massive anger among the students and guardians.
AASU activists in many places burnt the education minister’s effigy in protest against the examination mess.
