AASU on hunger strike

One and a half months have passed since the state started the new academic year. But the students gave yet to receive all textbook free of cost from the government. This has forced the All Assam Students Union to stage state side protest on Friday demanding immediate distribution of the free text books in the schools.

Hundreds of AASU activists in the district and subdivisional headquarters along with the block level are on a 100 hour hunger strike from Friday morning to mount pressure on the government to ensure immediate distribution of textbooks in all primary and high schools.

Talking to Assam Times, the agitating students said that they are well prepared to mount more pressure on the government if the government refuses to listen to the voice of protest.

AASU leaders and activists in Raha are also on hunger strike demanding immediate distribution of textbooks in the schools.

The participating AASU leaders have warned the  government not to downplay the issue involving millions of students in the state.

Raha College opens new chapter

Raha College will be now a seat of science and commerce learning in Assam. The college has introduced its proposed Science and Commerce streams on Wednesday. Nagaon Addl. Deputy Commissioner Purabi Konwar formally launched the classes at a function attended by Raha Circle officer Pallabi Kachari along with the Raha AASU leaders, their counterparts from the Tiwa Students Union and leading citizens.

The All Assam Student Union (AASU) Kokrajhar district committee staged a 3-hours sit in demonstration in Kokrajhar,opposing the centre's decision to citizenship for Bangladeshi cutizens, who were migrated in India after 1971 today. Many local organizations in Raha on Saturday have reiterated the demand to set up the proposed AIIMS in the area. Attending a huge public meeting in Raha, the speakers representing various local organizations have urged the people of the entire district to keep mounting pressure on the governments in Delhi and Dispur to ensure the hospital.

The local people in Raha have served a 7 day ultimatum to the government to take a final call on the proposed AIIMS in the area.
