Budget session begins

The Assam assembly has begun its budget session on Monday with Governor Banwarilal Purhit’s address outlining the major thrust of the Sarbananda Sonowal government.

Before that the House unanimously elected Hiten Goswami as the Speaker following the exit of Ranjit Das, who took over as Assam BJP state president.

During this 19 day long business session, finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will table the state budget 2017-2018 on February 7.

Opposition AIUDF and Congress tried to corner the government on the floor from Day raising the issues of demonetisation, citizenship amendment, law and order breakdown and price rise.
