Shankardev Shishu Vidya Niketan School at Dadara near Hajo is ready to get another facelift with the financial support from Guwahati Round Table 235, the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India (www.roundtableindia.org). The completed phase two section, comprising three classrooms, verandah & staircases with a total area of 2,750 square feet, will be inaugurated on 8 January next. Kamrup (rural) district magistrate Vinod Seshan has consented to inaugurate phase two part on Sunday in presence of district police chief PS Mahanta. “The foundation stone for development was laid on the 7 February 2016, where the project was planned to be completed in a phased manner with the first phase has already been completed. It was inaugurated by Assam education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma,” informed Parveen Goyal, chief of Guwahati Round Table 235.
Addressing the media persons on Wednesday, Goyal also added that they would soonstart the construction of phase three and expected to get it completed by the end of 2017. He described his mother organization as a non-religious and non-political entity. The Round Table India has over 4,500 chapters across the country comprising young businessmen, entrepreneurs, technocrats and other professionals. Mukesh Chokhani, secretary to the Guwahati chapter of Round Table India disclosed that they adopted the Dadara Shishu Niketan school under its flagship freedom through education project. He also added that they planned to develop around 10,500 sqft in the school premises with a total outlay of rupees 80 Lakhs.
Project conveners Avishek Kejriwal, Shwet Agarwal, Rahul Sethi with few others were also present on the occasion. Soon after the press meet the Guwahati Round Table 235 office bearers donated two galvanized steel chairs for Guwahati Press Club, which were accepted by the GPC secretary Nava Thakuria in presence of other member-journalists.
In a major boost wildlife conservation efforts, Goutam Narayan is the first Indian to have received the Harry Messel Award for his role to preserve the north eastern pygmy hog. His name figured in the recent IUCN Species Survival Commission Leaders' summit in Abu Dhabi. According to the citation, Narayan has been awarded in recognition of his pivotal role in the Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme in the region since 1995 which would help the country save a whole genus from extinction.
Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta strongly criticized PB Acharya alleging that the governor has been behaving like a BJP leader.Speaking at a function at the state party headquarter in Guwahati on Friday, Dutta accused Acharya of trying to foment an orgy of communal riot in the state in the pre poll scene.Dutta criticized the governor a day after chief minister publicly tore apart Acharya for discussing political activities at the Raj Bhawan with a delegation of BJP leaders.
Nine Haj pilgrims from Assam sustained serious injury at the Mecca stamped on Thursday. Identified as Jahanur Begum, she as been battling for life at the Al Jadid Hospital. This was stated by the ministry of external affairs in New Delhi.Four other pilgrim hailing from Karimganj district are believed to have been battling for life at the hospital. Four persons from Assam sustained injury in the Saudi Arabian tragedy where nearly one thousand Haj pilgrims died in a stamped on Thursday. All the four persons are learnt to have hailed from Karimganj district who departed Assam in the first week of August. His family members have been in touch with the Saudi Arabian authorities. The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad has urged President Pranab Mukherjee to take action against PB Acharya alleging that the governor has turned the Raj Bhawan into a political hub.In a memorandum sent to the President, the regional party has asked his intervention into the controversial role of the governor. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Thursday, AGP president Atul Bora said,” Acharya has made the Raj Bhavan into a BJP and RSS office and a training centre for the BJP and RSS, which is dangerous for democracy." Bora sharply criticised the governor hours after chief minister Tarun Gogoi raised the similar accusation against the governor.
The Asom Gana Parishad has asked for President Pranab Mukherjee’s intervention on the Centre’s move to impose non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals in Assam. Led by AGP leader and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, a delegation called on the President in New Delhi on Wednesday evening where they alleged that Assam will have to bear the brunt of the recent move. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Mahanta said that the state will not remain silent if the Centre imposes anything. He said the Centre should ensure state rights over the natural resources.
