Hand loom expo begins in Kokrajhar

The National Handloom Expo 2016-17 of BRAWFED has began from Friday at Sudempuri ground near JD Road in Kokrajhar town with 20-day long programme scheduled. A showcase of Eri-clothes was organised to the ramp on the occasion.

Binode Narzary, Chairman of Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisan Cooperatives Federation Limited(BRAWFED) lighted the lamp to inaugurate the expo in the presence of official and weavers from different districts of BTAD.The national handloom expo was organised by Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisan Cooperatives Federation Limited(BRAWFED). Nearly 100 stalls from different states of the country and districts of Assam,which included Assam,Northeastern states, Haryana,Rajasthan,Jammu & Kashmir,Punjab,Bihar,West Bengal,Chhatisgarh,Uttar Pradesh,Delhi etc are participating in the expo with their own state handloom products. NN Rana Patgiri, managing director of BRAWFED told that a customer assistance centre has also been setting up in the ground office market survey and analysis of demands,needs,preference of buyers of northeastern states area through the national handloom expo. Patgiri expresses his hopeful that at-least two crores of marketing would be held in the expo.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district. Professor Indira Boro, head of the department of Bodo for Bodoland University, has been named for an award from the Sahitya Akademy for translation in Bodo language. Dr. Boro has been named for the translation of her book Hirimba (originally written in Assamese by Jayanti Gogoi) Presently, Boro is the head of the department of Bodo at Bodoland University. Amid a strict security vigil, arrested Gujrat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was brought to Kokrajhar police station and later produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court. Mevani was sent into police custody for three days. Mevani was arrested late last night in Gujarat by Assam Police after BJP leader Arup Kumar Dey filed an FIR with Kokrajhar police station.
