Consultation to check crime against child held

A BTC level consultation with law enforcement agencies on crime against children was held at SP office conference hall on Tuesday in Kokrajhar district. The missing trend of children in Assam has been increasing day by day, of which 1674 children were went missing in 2015, said the Nedan Foundation in Kokrajhar.

The consultation was organised by Nedan foundation,an NGO working for preventing trafficking of women and girls.Dr LR Bishnoi,additional DGP(BTAD) lighted the lamp to inaugurate the consultation in the presence of Rajen Singh,Kokrajhar SP and police official staffs from four districts of BTAD, SSB officials, State Child Protection Society, health department officers and NGO organisers.

Dr Bishnoi lauded that initiative initiated from Nedan foundation while bringing awareness among law enforcement agencies and civil society on crime against children in the region.He said human trafficking is becoming a serious matter for the state,of which BTC region is seeing more cases in the state.

Digamabar Narzary,chairman of Nedan Foundation said Assam state is regarded as the second highest trafficking zone in the country. Three districts of the four BTAD districts namely-Kokrajhar,Baksa and Chirang have large trafficking cases in today’s report. He said Kokrajhar,heart of BTAD administration is one of the trafficking hubs known as sixth highest trafficking zone of Assam where highest number of trafficking takes place.He also said that some areas from Kokrajhar,Baksa and Chirang districts have a alrge number of trafficking cases as thse districts have remote araes situates in the border with Bhutan country. He told that missing of children is increasing day by day in the state since few years. A total of 1674 children(1029-girls/645-boys) were went missing in 2015,among them 911 children were traced after strict observation in the state. He said as per national crime bureau reports,Assam stands first in the nation for human trafficking.

‘This is an initiative to create awareness about crime against children in the region.Children trafficking cases have been increasing day by day in lower Assam region including BTAD districts’,Narzary said.

At least 3-4 cases of reports of missing of children reach in a week through child missing 1098 steps.We are trying to stop children trafficking in the resgion. Altogether 72 children were rescued from neighbouring states and 200 were prevented last year.

He said that the Missing Girl, 1098 is a toll free number through which person could be rescued in association with police and civil administrtaion. We are getting good response of at-least 7-8 cases are reporting with this initiative in Kokrajhar district.We are taking strict step to expand the Missing Girl-1098 project in other districts of BTAD in coming days,Digambar said.
