AGP dead opposed to amendment move
The Asom Gana Parishad is dead opposed to the NDA Government’s move to amend The Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Talking to Assam Times in New Delhi on Tuesday, senior AGP leaders said that the regional party would never allow the state to bear the burden of more Bangladeshi immigrants.
“Our position is clear and simple. We are dead opposed to the Bill. We won’t allow it to happen. We have conveyed our position to BJP,” said a senior AGP leader who is holding talks with the parliamentary standing committee in the capital.
Another leader said,” the amendment will be an utter disregard to the historic Assam Accord where the Centre and AASU agreed to detect and deport the Hindu and Muslim immigrants coming after 1971. We don’t understand why the step is required on the basis of religion.”
Recently the party’s top policy making body unanimously resolved to oppose the move even after BJP leaders have been trying to ally the apprehension.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Anjan Dutta are on a visit to New Delhi on Monday fetching a ray of hopes for the four lucky legislators who are waiting for ministeral berths. Gogoi is scheduled to attend the Congress president and chief ministers’ conference in the capital on Tuesday. He is likely to meet party high command in the sidelights of the conference seeking the approval to induct four new members in the cabinet. “Gogoi has earlier submitted the list of the lucky legislators.
