Bollywood stars to perform at ISL opening on Oct 1

Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Jacqueline Fernandes and Varun Dhawan to perform at the opening ceremony of the Hero Indian Super League 2016. Close to 500 performers and artists will take part in the fanfare of the opening ceremony.

All roads will lead to the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati on the evening of October 1.

And there is a good reason for it. The stadium will host the spectacular opening ceremony of the much anticipated third season of the Hero Indian Super League.

The opening ceremony promises glitz and glamour with Bollywood stars Alia Bhatt, Jacqueline Fernandes and Varun Dhawan gearing up to set the stage alight with their performances on some of their most popular tracks. Football loving fans from the North East region are expected to throng the stadium for the opening ceremony and opening match of the season and can groove and sway to the music as the glamorous trio take to the stage. Close to 500 performers and artists will take part in the fanfare of the opening ceremony.

The north east region has consistently groomed talented football professionals who have represented some of the biggest clubs in the country as well as the national team. Football Sports Development Ltd— a joint venture between IMG, Reliance Industries and Star India, have rewarded NorthEast United FC the coveted rights to host the scintillating opening ceremony to celebrate the regions passion with the beautiful game.

NorthEast United FC Owner and proud host of the opening ceremony, John Abraham said, “I’m extremely happy to get this opportunity to host the Opening ceremony. It’s a huge deal for my team as well as my people in the NorthEast region who have always showered the team with their love and supported us throughout. The Opening Ceremony promises to draw the world’s attention to the potential of NorthEast region and I hope this encourages more youth from the area to take up football professionally.”

As another exciting season of the Hero Indian Super League draws closer, football fans are gearing up for the football extravaganza which has taken the country by surprise since it began two seasons ago. The season opener will witness home side NorthEast United FC take on Kerala Blasters FC amidst a frenzy of excitement and passion in the region which shared a long history with football.

Both teams have had a successful pre-season campaign with NorthEast United travelling to the United Arab Emirates while the men in yellow travelled to Thailand. Both sides have hired new managers with former Saudi Arabia gaffer, NeloVingada taking charge of the Highlanders and Englishman Steve Coppell signing for the Blasters. The two teams missed out on qualification to the semi finals of the league and they will be looking to go that extra mile this year. The Highlanders missed out by only two points to finish fifth while Kerala finished at the foot of the table in 2015. This promises to be a cracker of a season with a potentially explosive opening fixture.

We are deeply concerned about the continuing ethnic violence in Manipur between the Meitei community and the tribal Kuki and Zo communities. We demand an immediate halt to this violence that is causing large scale disruption of lives, livelihoods and properties and unleashing even more terror among people. The immediate trigger to this violence was an April 2023 Manipur High Court order advising the state government to grant the Meitei community (members of which now have either OBC or in some cases SC status) the status of Scheduled Tribe. Thereby, the Meitei community would have access to land that is currently reserved for tribal communities. Several spates of violence broke...

Then why is GOI silent on the allegations of Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma being involved with Kuki militants in the Manipur election in 2017? Bora demanded a NIA probe into the allegations and arrest of Sarma under NSA Act. Meanwhile, he also stated...
