KPLT rebel killed

The security forces neutralized one hard-core Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) rebel and apprehended another in a surgical & swift operation on Saturdayb in East Karbi Anglong district of central Assam. The killed rebel was identified as the self-styled defence secretary of KPLT and the apprehended rebel as the self-styled armed wing chief of the tribal militant outfit.

Based on a specific intelligence input, the Army troop and Assam police personnel launched the joint operation in the evening hours of 27 August in Bheleu Ghat locality of East Karbi Anglong district. At around 1300 hrs, the team came in contact with some armed militants. On being challenged, one of them opened fire on the security forces. On retaliation, the KPLT rebel got killed.

“The other terrorist tried to escape taking advantage of the thick jungle, but was pursued by Army and apprehended. Two pistols along with ten live rounds of ammunition, fired cases and war like stores were recovered from the terrorists,” said a statement from the city based defence public relation office.
