Kamala Saikia remembered at Udalguri

Media fraternity of Udalguri district remembered late Kamala Saikia on his twenty fifth deat anniversary at Udalguri on August 9 with day long programme.Udalguri District Journalists' Union in association with Udalguri district administration organized the memorial ceremony at Udalguri Press Club premises at 10 am.The ceremony started with the hoisting of UDJU flag followed by offering floral tribute to the image of late Saikia.The memorial day meeting was held at 11.30 am to discuss role of the departed journalist in fighting against injustice done to innocent people of the society which was presided over by Jayanta Kumar Das,president of UDJU.Dilip Kumar Barua,secretary of the union in his introductory speech welcomed all the guests while senior journalists of the district Gautan Jyoti Talukdar attending as the appointed speaker spoke on Kamala Saikias life and activities.DN Hazarika, SDO(S)Udalguri,representing Udalguri district administration also paid tribute to Kamala Saikia.He requested media persons to be honest in their profession so that correct pictures could reach people.Senior journalists Hareswar Kalita,Narayan Deka,Gunjit Das etc also spoke a few words on the occasion.Members of UDJU felicitated rising child football sensation of Assam Chandan Boro with gamocha and a citation.Samuel Basumatari who was responsible for bringing Chandan to lime light was also felicitated at the meeting.It needs mention that nine years old Chandan,a class IV student of Uttar Harisinga LP School had been selected by Tata Trust India for a six years football coaching programme in Germany.
