Poachers have killed a full grown rhino on Thursday wee hours when a huge portion of the world heritage site is still reeling under flood. The incident took place in the Bagori range where the forest guards spotted the carcass in the morning. Poachers were believed to have taken away the horn. The incident took place a day after poachers killed a full grown female rhino along with her calf on Wednesday. A section of the KNP officials has tried to blame it all on the flood. But the missing horn has proved, beyond doubt, that it was case of rhino poaching.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday claimed to have restored normalcy in trouble-torn Goalpara district is now peaceful and the displaced people will be rehabilitated soon.Gogoi said that the situation in Rabha-Hasong area is now peaceful. The situation in the district, which is the nerve centre of the Rabha Hasong Joint Action Committee (RHJAC) opposed to the panchayat polls, had turned violent on February 12 panchayat election day with 20 people killed in police firing, arson and clashes.

Poll related violence refuses to die down. Two more people were killed in police firing in Dhubri district on Friday. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday ordered a thorough judicial probe into the poll related incidents in Goalpara. The judicial panel will find out if the protests against the elections were instigated. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Wednesday, he said that violence took place in 22 places. He further owned up full responsibility for the violence.He defended the elections and criticised the Opposition for blaming the government and not those who were disrupting the elections. The government has announced a compensation of Rs. 5 lakh for the families of those killed in the police firing.
