Rhino dies in Manas

The carcase of a female rhino was recovered from near Abwidhora camp under Bhuyapara range of the Park this morning.

Accodring to Park oficial, the rhino was found dead this morning. Preliminary investigation suggest, the rhino died due to lack of food. The female rhino named 'Mainao is stated to be ailing since the last few days. 

Mainao is the first rhino to be rehabilitated back in the Manas National Park in 2006 from Kaziranga. She was since given birth to two calves.

Meanwhile D Boro, Deputy Director of the Park said a major portion of the flood was flooded. The flood water of Beki has already washed away 2 camps-Narayanguri camp and Boat camp. It has also washed away a bridge and seven culverts. It has also eroded over 3.5 hectres of land along the 15 km river bank which flows through the park area.
