The high voltage political drama in Arunachal Pradesh is a staggering blow for BJP. The saffron party legislators gave outside support to the Kalikho Pul Government after the Centre lifted the president’s Rule. According to the Congress legislators, BJP played a crucial role in the drama where Pul managed to grab the hot seat.
“The dissidence by Kalikho Pul and his associates gathered momentum when they got direct support from a circle of BJP leaders in New Delhi. Pul and his associates stayed in New Delhi for several months formulating strategies to dislodge Tuki. Without Centre’s connivance it would have not been possible for Pul to grab the seat,” said a Congress leader in New Delhi.
Defying all constitutional provisions the Centre allegedly took the side of Pul and imposed the President’s Role which was later lifted to help Pul become the Chief Minister with outside support from BJP whose strength stands at 11.
Even after the SC ruling the BJP leaders in New Delhi said that Pul had the strength of numbers. Pul himself said in Guwahati that democracy runs in numbers and not by the courts. He even paraded 43 loyal legislators on his side.
But the drama underwent a complete change where Pul and his supporter MLAs came back to Congress. Nabam Tuki stepped down as Chief Minister. Both the leaders agreed to make Pema Khandu as Chief Minister of the frontier state.
