In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. These 15 include three Baruah and Anil Kumar Jain, Pramod Kumar Sharma, Rahul Dasgupta, Utpal Borah, PK Rao, Dr Ashutosh Karnataka, Saumendra Kumar Baruah, Dr Sunil Y Bharati and Bedanta Sarmah, Robin Deka, SB Buragohain.
Dispur is writing to New Delhi seeking inclusion of those in the N RC whose names appeared in the electoral rolls of the country by virtue of them ‘being Indians’, in the National Register of Citizens (NRC), which is being updated. The decision was finalized at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday. The meeting discussed the names of the genuine citizens whose names figure in the electoral rolls. Gogoi also directed initiation of appropriate steps for deputing State government officials to every household for filling up the NRC forms.
Over 10 lakh pilgrims are likely to visit the kamakhya temple premises on the occasion of the ambubachi fair which is underway. Talking to Assam Times, organizers said over 5 lakh pilgrims are on the way. Some of them have already reached the city to be brought to the venue by transport, train and ferry. “ We have the medical and disaster management team with us to be deployed as occasion demands,” said organizers. The authorities are working to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply to the camps along with comfortable sanitation and hygiene.
Amid tight security pilgrims from the country and abroad are thronging atop the Nilachal Hill to get a glimpse of the ongoing ambubachi fair. Organizers told Assam Times that over 1000 foreign pilgrims have already arrived in the hill top to see the four day long event while 80,000 pilgrims from other parts of the country are visiting the ancient temple pilgrims. Yet another incident of racial attack on the north east girl in Delhi sends shock and anger across the region on Tuesday.The incident took place in Tilok Nagar area where a group of five youths tried to molest a Mizo girl at night. The miscreants stopped the girl who was coming at a car with one of her friends. Then they tried to molest her in full view of her friend. But they were resisted. Normal life came to a grinding halt in central districts following a 12 hour bandh call by a platform of 12 organizations on Tuesday. Vehicles, mostly, refused to ply on the road from 6 in the morning while shops and markets remained closed under the impact of the bandh demanding simultanesous polls for Tiwa autonomous body in the central districts. In some places a section of bandh supporters tried to stop the movement of vehicles by burning tyres on the road. Some others damaged a few vehicles by pleting stones for defying the bandh.
