VAT hike fuels protest, anger

The hike in VAT seems to have fuelled no less protest across the state on Wednesday where many parties and organizations have pinned the blamed on the Sonowal Government.

AJYCP activists in large number thronged the public spots in many places and staged protest opposing the moved to hike VAT in 127 commodities leaving the commoners to bear the brunt. Shouting slogans against the decision, they burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has come down heavily on the government for the anti people move. Addressing a press conference at Rajib Bhawan, party spokesman Apurba Bhattacharya said that the move would hit the common people hard. He further demanded immediate roll back of the decision.
