Tearful farewell to Anjan Dutta

The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.

Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

A smooth passage of the Indo-Bangla land swap deal is expected to resolve two issues confronting Assam for the last several decades. Sources told Assam Times that Dhaka is all prepared to extradite Anup Chetia who has been languishing in jail for the last two decades. “Chetia is aware of his possible extradition and he is fully prepared to land in his native place. Unidentified miscreants shot dead a couple in Dhubri creating no less sensation in the entire district on Friday. Local residents in Kushakati told Assam Times that three unidentified gunmen barged into their house on Friday wee hours and started indiscriminate firing at Abdul Kalam and Sabina Bibi.The couple died on the spot and the gunmen left the spot. Their bodies were recovered in the morning. Police officials arrived in the spot and the investigation is going on. 
A 24 hour strict vigil is in place along the Assam-Nagaland border to deal with the miscreants from the neighbouring state who has been fomenting trouble for the last couple of days.The area of disturbance is Rongkham in the Tiru hills reserve forest where the miscreants set afire several houses inside the Assam territory.The authority has stepped up security along the border to prevent the movement of miscreants who has been mongering trouble for the last couple of week.   Assam police battalion continue to patrol Ronkhaam area along the Assam Nagaland border in Moriani.  
A Python was rescued by local people of Mushalpur area of Baksa district on Thursday.According to local people, the Python was noticed by some peoples at a place called Karemura under Mushalpur subdivision and later informed to forest department. The local peoples handed over it to forest official . The Python was to be weights of 10 kilograms.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is in a mood to finalise further expansion of his ministry. Gogoi who is camping in New Delhi is meeting Dr CP Joshi on Friday. The chief minister is finalising the names of four legislators who would be inducted afresh in the cabinet. After months of intense debate amd controversy Parliament on Thursday cleared the Indo-Bangla land boundary rectification Bill. Lok Sabha cleared it on Thursday a day after the Rajya Sabha approved it.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj urged the lower House to pass it unanimously as it will send a good message to the neighbouring country.She told the House, "there was no vote against it and there was no abstention (in the Rajya Sabha). Marked by a string of stray incidents the AGP-sponsored 10 hour statewide Assam bandh ends in the afternoon. The bandh which evoked partial response in protest against the Indo-Bangla land swap ended in the afternoon. It had hardly any impact on Guwahati city and Barak valley where the normal life was running as usual. But some stray incidents marred the bandh in many parts of the state. A section of AGP activists enforced the bandh by burning tyres on the road. Some others attacked some school buses.
