Kokrajhar police on Monday morning arrested three timber smugglers along with seized a laden Sal timbers vehicle at Karigaon along the 31C National Highway in Kokrajhar, which was affected after Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma seek cooperation from police and district administration to protect forest land and illegally destruction of natural beauty in the state.
Police lodged a Naka checking along the National Highway to check the timber smuggling since few days and this morning able to arrest three smugglers, who were carrying illegally timbers at a Bolerao pick-up van bearing Registration No.AS-01GC-6939 bound for Howly Barpeta from Patgaon of Kokrajhar district. There were 66 pieces of Sal timbers and market value would be 2 lakhs which were illegally brought by smugglers in the region.
The arrested were identified as Sahidul Islam, Nazrul Islam and Babul Ali, trio were hailed from Howly area of Barpeta district. Police able to seized the vehicle and timbers due to strong initiative to protect destruction of forest and wild life.
Narayan Boro, police of Karigaon outpost told that police seized Sal timbers and vehicle following strong naka check along the National Highway. We could achieve this step after forest minister requested police to cooperate while checking illegally carrying timbers in the region.
