Two NSLA arrested

Two cadre of the National Santhali Liberation Army (NSLA) were arrested from Pakhihaga area, in a joint operation launched by army, police and cobra under Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar district late last night. They were Joseph Hembrom and Sushil Hebrom,were involved with extortion,money collection,logistic supports to the militant outfits. Two riffle and live bullets recovered from them.

Northeast Butterfly meet concludes

ISPL 2022: Bodoland lifts trophy

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) team won the trophy defeating Lai Autonomous Council (LADC) of Mizoram 1-0 in the final match of inter sixth schedule premier league -2022 being held at SAI SAG center,Kathalguri Titaguri in Kokrajhar district. Sonam Basumatary of Bodoland Territorial Region scored the lone goal against Lai Autonomous in 51 minutes of the second half. This led his team to win the tournament 1-0. The Bodoland team won the final match of the ISPL. Lai Autonomous District Council tried to equalise the score by scoring, but failed to score any goal against the Bodoland team. Sahitya Akademy for Indira Boro

Professor Indira Boro, head of the department of Bodo for Bodoland University, has been named for an award from the Sahitya Akademy for translation in Bodo language. Dr. Boro has been named for the translation of her book Hirimba (originally written in Assamese by Jayanti Gogoi) Presently, Boro is the head of the department of Bodo at Bodoland University. She has authored many books in Bodo language and contributed a lot to the uplift and development of Bodo literature. Several literary lovers and Bodo Sahitya Sabha have congratulated her for being named for the Sahitya Akademy award.

MLA Mevani produced in court in Kokrajhar

Amid a strict security vigil, arrested Gujrat Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani was brought to Kokrajhar police station and later produced before the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court. Mevani was sent into police custody for three days. Mevani was arrested late last night in Gujarat by Assam Police after BJP leader Arup Kumar Dey filed an FIR with Kokrajhar police station. Ganja smuggler sustained bullet injuies

KOKRAJHAR: A Ganja smuggler was shot at by police in the Bishmuri area of Kokrajhar district late Wednesday night. The incident happened  in Kokrajhar in Bishmuri. The victim was rushed to the RNB civil hospital in Kokrajhar. Mukesh Kumar of Bihar was identified as the victim. KOKRAJHAR: The police nabbed three people with 91 Kgs of Ganja on Karigaon national highway in Kokrajhar on Wednesday.. The arrested persons were identified as Hasanur Rahman, Mithun Miya of Mankachar and Mukesh Kumar of Bihar. The smuggled Ganja was bound for Bihar from Agartala in a Scorpio vehicle, bearing registration no.BR 11V-7551.

Hagrama Mohilary, BPF chief, released on bail

BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar. Pramod Boro, the president of the United People’s Party of Luwahati, filed a complaint against  Mohilary, the former chief of Bodoland Territorial Council, at the court of CJM Kokrajhar for making derogatory remarks about him in February 2020. The bail was granted by Kokrajhar's chief judicial magistrate.
