Tezpur University wins Cotton College university debate

As a maiden event for the Cotton College State University, the Cotton university Students’ Union (CUSU) in association with Roots Institute and Guidelines Institute, Panbazar organised the first ever Cotton College State University All Assam Inter Institutional Debate Competition 2016 on 30th April, 2016 at the Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College. The chief Guest for the debate competition was Mayur Bora along with the Vice Chancellor of CCSU who delivered the Inaugural speech. The topic for the debate competition is as follows:

In the opinion of the House, “Religion, today, is only a ploy to further the economic and political self interest of the society's elite".

The event saw the participation of students from many prominent educational institutions of Assam and they spoke both in Assamese and in English. The Speaker of the Debate was Professor Jagadish Goswami, Head of Dept. of Economics of B.Barooah College while the Judges were Umi Deka (lawyer and a senior debater) and Nabajit Borthakur (News Editor, DY365).

The winners are as follows :

Best Team - team from Tezpur University comprising of Bhanu Poudel and Uddipana Goswami
2nd Best Team - team of Cotton College State University comprising of Upasana Deka and Mriganka Shekhar Konwar.
Best Speaker – Bhanu Poudel from Tezpur University
2nd Best Speaker – Monami Bhuyan from Assam Engineering College.
3rd Best Speaker – Himakshi Thakuriya from Cotton College and Filzah Belal from National Law University and Judicial Academy.
