Assam Don Bosco University Empowers Youth with Free Solar Energy Workshop

The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) successfully concluded a three-day workshop, "Swabalamban: Empowering Employment through Solar Energy," held from July 3rd to 5th, 2024, at its Azara campus. Conducted entirely in Assamese, the initiative aimed to enhance the employability of young people by equipping them with practical skills in solar energy technology and electrical house wiring.

This free workshop was organized by the university's School of Technology under their commitment to social empowerment and sponsored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under its VAANI scheme, which promotes the use of Indian languages in education.

Over the three days, 54 participants gained valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in designing and building Solar Powered Chargeable LED lamps. These innovative lamps can be charged using solar energy or mobile chargers and can also function as emergency mobile chargers. Additionally, participants received training on house wiring fundamentals, including tools, safety measures, and practical applications.

The workshop culminated in a valedictory function where each participant received a certificate of completion and the Solar Powered LED lamps they created during the training. These practical tools can empower them to pursue self-employment ventures or entrepreneurial endeavors in the renewable energy sector.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Manoranjan Kalita, Director of the Assam Don Bosco University School of Technology, emphasized the program's significance. "Swabalamban goes beyond a training course," he said. "It equips individuals with the skills and confidence to build sustainable livelihoods. We are grateful to AICTE for supporting initiatives that promote the use of Indian languages in education, enhancing the learning experience for students and educators alike."

Participants expressed their appreciation for the workshop, highlighting the valuable insights and hands-on experience gained in the solar energy field. Many are eager to use their newfound skills to contribute to their communities and explore new career paths.

The Swabalamban program exemplifies Assam Don Bosco University's commitment to fostering educational and vocational opportunities that address the socio-economic needs of the region while promoting sustainable development.
