We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Eerie silence in Paltanbazar

A day after the powerful blast, an eerie silence is prevailing in Paltanbazar even as the police have claimed a major breakthough into the incident. All shops and markets in the area are remaining closed although no organisation has given any call. 50 years of music: Minoti Khaund

Police breakthrough in Paltanbazar blast

Altogether fourteen people have been injured while the suspected ULFA militants targeted a CRPF patrolling party with a powerful explosion in Paltanbazar area in the city at around 7-30 in the evening.Sources here say the ULFA’s 709 battalion top cadre Saranga Patowary is behind this attack. Patowary reportedly reached the city two days back.The explosion took place just a few meter away from the Paltanbazar police station. Blast in Sivasagar

ULFA is stepping up its operation also in Upper Assam with blast in Sivasagar followed by an encounter with police. The incident took place at around 8 in the evening. No casualty has been reported but security has been beefed up throughout the district to avert further incident.

Grenade explosion in capital

A grenade explosion in Lastgate area near Beltola has once again rocked the city just before a while. No casualty has been reported. Top ranked police and civil officials have arrived in the spot. All city buses on the route has been suspended. Details are awaited.

Gernade attack on Rly workers in Dibrugarh

Four railway workers have been injured in Dibrugarh while suspectged ULFA militants lobbed powerful grenade at them on Saturday wee hours in Rongsai. According to information, suspected ULFa militants lobbed a grenade on a group of railway workers on Saturday wee hours while they were sleeping near their work site at Rongsal .Although no militant outfit has so far claimed the responsibility, ULFA is suspected to be behind the incident. Truck run over one in Borgang

One person died on the spot while a truck ran over him early morning on Saturday in Bagang are in Bihali. According to information, Dulan Baurik, a resident of Gohpur along with four others got down from the Itanagar boun bus at Borgang at around 3 am. A truck bearing No AS08A 1134 hit him after striking a bus. Dulan died on the spot and the driver was arrested by Bihali police.

NEIGS Academic session from Feb 9

The annual academic session of the North East India Geographical Society (NEIGS) will be held at Pandu College premises under the auspices of the Department of Geography of the college on February 9, with a day-long programme, stated a press release issued by NEIGS general secretary Bimal Kar.
