We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Tragic bus accident at Sonapur: 15 feared dead

Atleast fifteen people have been feared dead at Sonapur when a bus fell into a river after the driver lost his control at the dead of the night on Saturday. According to information, twelve dead body have been recovered so far and the three people are still missing. Rescue operation are still go on. 5 injured in Black Widow attack

Five people including three policemen have been left injured as the Black Widow militants by accident attacked them in between Langtin and Hatisali on Friday afternoon. According to information, the militants attacked the police vehicles while it was on the way to Maibong from Lumding at around 4-45 in the evening. The driver and a staff of the vehicle have also been left in the incident. Meanwhile, Black Widow publicity secretary Faifrang Dimasa made it clear that the ambush was mistakenly carried out saying they targeted DHD chief Dilip Nunisa.

Maoist rebels sneaking into Assam: Rajnath

Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Friday has warned that the country could land in big trouble if the government fails to check the stepped up activities of the Maoist rebels who have sneaked into Assam from Bhutan. Addressing a press conference on Friday, the BJP president said the Maoist rebels have been operating in the north eastern states. He said Maoist rebels have been spreading to as many as 170 district of the country. He said the Government should deal with the situation firmly to avoid this situation.

Bail for AASAA leader Rafel Kujur

The jailed AASAA vice president Rafel Kujur has been granted bail by the Gauhati High Court. According to information, a single of justice Anima Hazarika granted him bail on Friday. Kujur was arrested by Dibrugarh police on January 28 charging him with taking Rs 20,000 in cash from ANLA extremists for holding the Beltola rally on November 24. Later, he was sent to judicial custody. He also deposed before the Manisana Commission from judicial custody while it was probing the Beltola violence that rocked the city on November 24.

Devastating fire in Jorhat town

Property worth one crore has been left ravaged while a 12 hour long devastating fire that broke out on Thursday midnight at a goodwon in Jorhat town. Eyewitness say the fire broke out at the ground floor of the a four storied godwon in the Chambers Road which later was spreading to the top floors. Fire tenders from Golaghat, Sivasagar, Dergaon, Roworia Bokakhat were pressed into service but the fire engulfed property worth corers of rupees. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner L S Changson and the administrative officials had sought help of ONGC fire fighters from Nazira. These tenders arrived and started operation and the fire was doused in the morning.

General Officer Commanding of Army’s Eastern Command KJ Jamwal has arrived in Tezpur 4 Core Office to take stock of the state’s counter insurgency operations. He is schedule to hold a series of meeting with the Tezpur based 4 Core Headquarters GOC S S Jaswal during his two day visit. The meeting is expected to review the overall security in Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh.
