We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

ANLA involved in Tezpur blast

Shilabhadra passes away

Noted litterateur and Sahitya Akademy ward winning writer Reboti Mohan Dutta Chaudhory passed away on Friday night at a city hospital. For the 87 year writer of the Madhupur ArunTaangini, the end came at around 8-30 in the evening. Popularly known as Shilabhadra, Dutta Chaudhory was admitted in the hospital two weeks back in view of his old age ailment. He was born in 1924 in Gauripur in Dhubri district. He completed his graduation from Carmichael College in Rongpur and later did his mater degree in mathematics from the Calcutta Univrsity in 1946. He started his career as a teacher in Cotton College. Poaching in KNP: AASU demands CBI probe

The All Assam Students Union has demanded a CBI enquiry into the rhino poachings at the Kaziranga National Park and alleged that the poachers are backed by a section of forest officials and also by some ministers and MLAs.Addressing a press conference in the city, AASU General secretary tapan Kumar Gogoi said that the failure to check the rhino poachings is proves that a section of forest officials backed some ministers and MLAs have been aiding and abetting the poachers. Police pick up 2 with explosive materials

The city police picked up two people and seized a huge quantity of explosive materials while it was running an operation in Patharkunwari area on Tuesday midnight. According to information, the city police firstly rounded up up one Binod Thapa with an electrical detonator and some explosive materials. Binod led the police to the house of one Haramohan Barman and recovered 14 such electrical detonators and 50 detonator in addition to 4 gelatin sticks and four kilogram explosive materials. The police suspect that both the people have help ULFA. The police have some inputs that ULFA cadre Champak Sarma, who was recent arrested from the city received explosive materials from him.

1 dead, 14 injured in Tezpur town

One died and as many as fourteen people have been injured when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful bomb on Wednesday in Tezpur town forcing a spontaneous bandh of the town from afternoon. According to information, the bomb was planted at a bicycle in front of Borgola, at 100 km away from the Tezpur Police Station. Four of the injured people are stated to be serious and they have been rushed to the nearest Tezpur Civil Hospital. They are Raju Barman, Suraj Prasad, Srimanta Hazarika.
