We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Flutter in Golaghat town

An unidentified call has created a flutter in the entire Golaghat town on Friday forcing the authorities to beef up security measures. According to information, a Bar Association member Sashanka Tamuly has received an unidentified telephone call at 1 pm on Friday. The caller has threatened to blow up all the offices in the town barring the Apex Bank. As soon as the message spread like wild fire, the authorities are fanning police and para military troops in the town to launch a vigorous search operation. Even sniffer dogs are being deployed to spot the exact caller and explosive materials if any. Details are awaited.

Central team reviewing Assam law and order

A high level Central team is reviewing Assam’s law and order situation. According to information, led by Union cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar the 24 member team is reviewing the performance of the three tier unified command structure which has been failing to achieve desired results in tackling the terrorists. The team discussed the state’s security scenario Assam Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajai Singh on Thursday. ULFA cadres arrested in the city

The city police aresed two ULFA cadres from the Latashil area on Thursday. They are known to be Krishna Bodo and Thaneswar Deka alias Illias. According to information, the police arrested them near the Ganesh temple while they were on the way to collect cash the demanded earlier. On the other hand, the Goroimari police further arrested five ULFA cadres and recovered some explosive materials.

The Board of Secondary education, Assam is beginning its High School Leaving Certificate Examinations 2008 and High Madrassa examinations from Friday across the state. 4 poachers arrested

Four poachers have been arrested during a stepped up anti poaching operation launched by police, CRPF and forest officials, four poachers have been arrested from a hotel in Diphu on Wednesday. In yet another case, two more poachers by the Jakhalabandha police from Samaguri area in Nagaon district. According to information, four poachers have been arrested from the Hillview Hotel in Diphu during a joint operation launched by Karbi Anglong police, fiores department officials assisted by the CRPF jawans. The Peoples Committee for Peace Initiative in Assam has sponsored a statewide dharna on Wednesday demanding immediate release of human rights activist and PCG member Lachit Bordoloi with noted lawyer Nekibur Zaman. Along with other parts of the state, people in hundreds thronged beside Dighaipukhuri in Guwahati demanding release of Lachit Bordoloi and Nekibur Zaman. Assam CPI leader Pramod Gogoi has apprehended a some people in Assam have been trying to disrupt the peace process. The arrest of PCG member Lachit Bordoloi, lawyer Nekibur Zaman are clear indications of this nefarious design.
