Senior journalist Bidhayak Das, who is presently based in Yangon, will deliver a talk on the changing political scenario of Myanmar on Thursday (21 April 2016) at Guwahati Press Club (program starting at 3 pm).
Das will highlight the overall change of the neighboring country after the general election held last year which politically empowered National League for Democracy chief Daw Aung San Suu Kyi after the landslide victory. Myanmar was ruled by military generals for decades. He will also explore the possibility of benefits for the people of northeast India with more contacts with the Myanmarese populace, particularly the northern part of the southeast Asian nation.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (I) handed down the death penalty to two of its cadres for their alleged involvement with espionage.
In a press communique, the outlawed outfit said that its two cadres, Sanjiv Sarma and Dhanjit Das, were found to be involved in espionage. The cadres were given extreme punishments, it added. “ They were spies. In front of our inquiry officer, they conceded their activities,'' the release further said.
