Queer Pride Guwahati

The much colorful Queer Pride Guwahati was held on Sunday with people participating the walk from all walks of the society. A street fashion show by Enlighten was also held to support the LGBTQ community. The walked started in the city from Handique Girls College, Food Villa, Nehru Park, BSNL Office, RKB Hostel and ended back in Dighalipukhuri Park entrance. 

People sang and danced to the beats of dhols and songs, and raised slogans demanding end to all forms of discrimination, violence and oppression against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer people. The participants protested against the laws, like Section 377 which criminalises consensual sex between adults.

One person died and five others have been injured when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful bomb in Tinsukia.The explosion took place at Sripura around 8-30 in the morning where one person was killed on the spot.The injured have been rushed to the hospital after the arrival of police. Former minister Hitendra Nath Goswami joined BJP on Monday a week after he left AGP. Goswami is not the first AGP leader to have joined the saffron party. Former AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary and Jagadish Bhuyan are also likely to join the party.Patowary is believed to have been camping in New Delhi for instant touch with central BJP leaders.

Many KMSS activists have staged five hour long dharna at Gorchuk area in the city demanding immediate release of Akhil Gogoi who was arrested on Sunday along with five other leaders.Talking to Assam Times, led by Pramod Boro’s wife Purnima Boro, the protestors said that the agitation would not halt until and unless Gogoi is released.They further blocked a road by burning tyres in protest against the arrest of KMSS president.

Four army jawans have sustained serious injury in an ambush by suspected NDFB(S) in Udlaguri district on Sunday.The ambush took place at Majbat where suspected Bodo militants attacked the 36th Assam Rifles jawans at Jawalia centre.They were airlifted to the Tezpur Army Hospital where they have been battling with life. Finally Chief minister Tarun Gogoi broke his silence on the arrest of Akhil Gogoi and five of his associates.Talking to reporters in Dibrugarh on Sunday, Gogoi said that the KMSS president violated law on February 24.He, however, said that law would take its own course and that nobody is above the law.
Guwahati police got remand of Akhil Gogoi for four days 12 hours after the KMSS president was arrested on Sunday.Producing him along with five of his associates in the court of chief judicial magistrate, the police sought ten days remand.Amid tight security, Gogoi and five others were brought to the court where both sides had their arguments.Talking to reporters, SSP AP Tiwary said that they have already produced some evidence to substantiate the complaint against the KMSS leader in connection with the self immolation cases.
