4 jawans injured in ambush

Four army jawans have sustained serious injury in an ambush by suspected NDFB(S) in Udlaguri district on Sunday.

The ambush took place at Majbat where suspected Bodo militants attacked the 36th Assam Rifles jawans at Jawalia centre.

They were airlifted to the Tezpur Army Hospital where they have been battling with life. Details are awaited.

NDFB-S militant killed in Majbat

A hardcore NDFB-S militant was killed at an encounter with army in Udalguri district on Monday.

The encounter took place at Mitunmai area in Majbat in the morning.

Acting on a tip off that a group of NDFB-S militants are camping in the area, police and army conducted a raid where the encounter took place.

Identified as Mustak Khan Mooshahary, the Bodo militant died on the spot.

Notably, a section of NDFB-S militants has been unleashing terror in the area in the form of kidnapping, extortion and killing.

Rhino carcass found in Manas

RUPAK DAS, BAKSA: After a brief lull, rhino poaching has struck Manas National Park. Forest guards recovered the carcass of a full grown rhino at Dauzeng of the Bhuyapara range of the national park on Saturday. The horn of the animal which was believed to have been killed two or three days back was missing. The carcass bore three injury marks. The rhino was brought to this park along with four others from the Pabitara wildlife sanctuary in 2012 under the project Indian Rhino Vision-2020(IRV-2020). With this, the number of rhinos killed in this park has gone up to 8.

Jishnu Medhi receives media fellowship

The short term fellowship to study various aspects of pavement dwellers (primarily beggars) of Guwahati has been awarded to Jishnu Medhi of NE Television. Conducted by Guwahati Press Club with the support from ERD Foundation, Guwahati the one & half month fellowship is expected to provide space for the fellow to go for an in-depth study (and report) about the issue. The fellow will try to analyze the reason behind their homelessness, categorization and also the security aspect of the homeless persons in the city. The fellow Jishnu Medhi will receive a part of his fellowship money in an informal meeting at 3 pm on August 6 in the press club from the ERD Foundation chiarman M.Haque.
