A book penned by an Assamese technocrat turned writer AK Pathak was released at Guwahati Press Club on 28 January 2016. Eminent Assameseauthor and former Asom Sahitya Sabha president LN Bora released the book titled Mizo Tawng Made Easy, where the writer made an effort to make Mizo language understandable for a non-Mizo reader. Bora also pointed out that the primary language of Mizoram should be announced as a modern Indian language.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will be on a day long visit to Assam on May 24 a year after BJP came to power with Sarbananda Sonowal as chief minister. During his day long visit, Modi will be opening the much awaited Dhola-Sadiya bridge, the largest bridge in the country. A CID team probing the multi crore scam in the agriculture department questioned director to extract more information on Tuesday. The five member CID team questioned director Juri Phukan for a couple of hours relating to the anomalies' in fertilizer seed procurement and distribution. They further sought some crucial files at the Krishi Bhawan to carry out the probe into the Rs 700 crore scam which took place during the erstwhile Congress government. CID had already arrested a few officers and contractors in this connection.

Despite round-the-click vigil, the poachers in Kaziranga struck again for horn in the national park. Forest guards the famed abode of one horn rhinos found a carcass of the one horn animal in the Agoratoli range on Saturday. The animal was believed to gave been killed two or three years back and took away the horn. This the third rhino poaching case in the world heritage site this year.
