The Chef de Mission (CdM) from eight participating countries- India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Afganistan visited various venues of the 12th South Asian Games at Guwahati on on Monday. The Games will be jointly hosted by Guwahati and Shillong from February 5 to 16.
The high level delegation comprising officials from eight participating nations visited Sarusajai Sports Complex, Moullana MD Tayabullah Hockey Stadium, Kahilipara Shooting Range, All Assam Tennis Association and Bhogeshwari Phukanani Indoor Stadium.
After the visit, the delegation expressed its satisfaction on the preparations of the Games. The officials will now visit the Games venues in Shillong on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Injeti Srinivas, CEO, OC-SAG, welcomed the guests from the eight neighboring countries and apprised them with the progress of the Games.
Srinivas said, “All ongoing works will be completed by the end of this month. The Organising Committee is working hard for the success of the Games. There will be nodal hotels for each country. We have shortlisted 80 hotels in Guwahati and 50 in Shillong to provide satisfactory and comfortable facilities to our guests and athletes,” he said.
The 12th South Asian Games, 2016 to be held in Guwahati and Shillong, is expected to be the biggest international multi-sporting extravaganza, a first of its kind in the North Eastern region. More than 2500 athletes will take part in the 12-day sporting event. The 23 sports disciplines of the Games are – archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, handball, hockey, judo, kabaddi, kho kho, shooting, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, triathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu.
