In yet another incident of moral policing, an irate mob of a remote village in Nagaon district stripped off a woman and a person to be mercilessly beaten up sending no less shock and sensation across the state on Wednesday.
The incident took place in the afternoon at No 2 Beltola village in Kampur bordering Karbi Anglong village where a section of local villagers caught the duo alleging illicit affairs between them.
Then they were dragged out of a house to be tied, chastised and stripped off. Policemen arrived in the spot. But the scene refused to change.
The villagers continued to inflict torture on them even in full view of the policemen who failed to deal with the situation. Later, both of them were taken to the police station.
Various parties, organizations and individuals have condemned the incident and demanded action against the perpetrators. They further demanded stern action against the policemen who failed to deal with the mob.

Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) has alleged a nefarious conspiracy by police and the army to crush their spine, engaging a section of youths who were dispatched to the jungles to join the rebel outfit.
