Ambubachi Mela

Devotees offering prayers to the Goddess Kamakhya as the temple door has opened today after four days at the Kamakhya temple premises, believed to be the center of the Hindu cult of Tantra in Guwahati on 25-06-08. Today is the last day of the ongoing annual four-day "Ambubachi Mela". Thousands of seers and pilgrims converged at the temple for the festival, which began on June 22.

please go through the local newspaper relased on 16/06/2009 Kamakhya temple closure GUWAHATI, June 15 – The Kamakhya temple will remain closed for four days from June 22 to June 25 on the occasion of Ambubachi Mela. The temple will reopen on June 26 morning for devotees, a press release received here today stated. No entry passes will be issued in respect of police, defence, military and paramilitary personnel for three days from the date of reopening of the temple in view of the rush of devotees, the release added.

Two hardcore NDFB rebels were arrested with by police in the outskirt of Guwahati city on Saturday. According to information, a team of police led by Superintendent of police Partha Sarathi Mahanta nabbed the duo and seized pistols and explosives from the spot. They were apprehended at Bondapar near Boko along Bhutan border on Saturday morning. After a brief silence, ULFA strikes back again with a grenade blast in lower Assam's Goalpara district leaving 6 CRPF jawans dead on Friday. The incident took place at around 11 in the morning at Solmari when ULFA militants lobbed a powerful hand grenade at a CRPF patrolling party. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been discharged from Max hospital on Wednesday. Gogoi would be shifted to Mumbai in a day or two for open heart surgeries. It is learnt that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has urged Dr Ramakanta Panda to attend on the Chief Minister. The Prime Minieter who talked to Gogoi on Tuesday has suggested him to go to Dr Panda at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. Dr Panda was attending on the Prime Minister last year. One person died, another injured as a police constable unleashed terror among the members of his family in Guwahati on Tuesday. The incident took place at Lotakota area in the city.
