Hepatitis-B vaccination camp for Siliguri scribes

Assam’s well-known Dispur Hospitals in association with Siliguri Journalists’ Club has organized a free Hepatitis-B vaccination camp for the benefit of local scribes on 21 December 2015. The second dose of Hepatitis B vaccine will be administered on 21 January to complete the vaccination process.

It may be mentioned that Hepatitis-B is an infectious and deadly disease that primarily affects the human liver. Caused by the Hepatitis-B virus, the disease may show no symptom during the initial infection. Statistics reveal that over 750,000 people die of Hepatitis-B every year across the globe.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) over 40 million Indians are living with the chronic Hepatitis-B infection. As the infection of Hepatitis-B virus can be prevented by the vaccine, the WHO recommends better detection and prevention facilities across the globe. Lately Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has started campaigning for the massive Hepatitis-B vaccination program. Guwahati based Dispur Hospitals private limited, had earlier extended medical support to over 150 scribes of Guwahati and around 50 journalists of Dimapur for the Hepatitis-B vaccination camps. Various other media organizations including Shillong Press Club and Press Club of Sikkim have also shown interest in organizing such camps for the benefit of their member-journalists.
