ULFA-I uses guerrilla tactic only for self defence and not for waging any waragainstIndia, said Dr Abhizeet Asom.
In a message sent to media on the Protest Day on Saturday, the ULFA-I chairman said that the outfit has been struggling to save the rights of the indigenous people of Assam.
According to the elusive ULFA-I leader, the "immature" studentleaders who spearheaded the Assam Agitation surrendered before New Delhi when they signed an accord to deport Bangladeshi aliens in 1985 with Rajiv Gandhi.
"However, India in contrast is seeking military solution to our legitimate struggle to establish our birthright as enshrined in international statues and our indigenous masses are responding to the call of the hour to own what belong to them," said the ULFA supremo.

The Assam government has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the recent incident in Azara where two women from Kokrajhar were found dead. The duo were believed to have died under mysteriour circumstances and the bodies were recovered beside the railway track at Jogipara in the outskirt of Guwahati. The brief silence is over. BTAD areas seem to have erupted in violence forcing the authority to clamp curfew on Thursday. Violence took its worse turn during the 24 hour lower Assam bandh on Wednesday demanding exclusion of Non Boro areas from BTAD. A string of group clashes marred the bandh call leaving two dead and several others injured. The clashes broke out in Baska when a group of people forced some shops to open. These have forced the administration to step up security in the entire Baska district.

Bad news for nature lovers. A wild elephant found dead of electrocution on Tuesday night. The tragic incident took place at Sonari in Sivasagar at night when a heard of wild elephants came to the are in quest io search of food. Three persons were killed and atleast 20 others have been injured when a passenger bus collided its head on a tanker in Nagaon district. The incident took place on the National Highway 37 in Roha at 2 am, where a Guwahati bound passenger bus from Tinsukia collided head on a standred tanker. The of the passengers died on the spot while the injured have been rushed to the hospital.
