The upasampada (ordinance) of two monks marked the end of 8th Sacred Kathina Civara Dana cum Acharya Kanto Poi at a small hilly town along the Indo-Myanmar border, Rima Village under Rima-Putok Circle of Nampong, Changlang district on November 22.
The 8th Sacred Kathina Civara Dana cum Acharya Kanto Poi with a motto of “All Buddhist Sects under one umbrella” was celebrated at Asoka Vihara, Rima Village from November 20 to 22. The Deputy Commissioner of Changlang dist W.Khimhun and ZPC Marina Kenglang attended the religious event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively along with host of dignitaries that included ADC Jairampur Kento Riba, Director IPR C.M.Longphong, DDSE Changlang H.Loyi, SDO Nampong K.Tikhak , ZPM Jairmapur T.Longri former DC C.S Jeinow, former ADC W.Tikhak, former Director AIR C.M.Manloi and many monks from Assam, Singapore and Myanmar.
Thousands of Theravada Buddhist and other Buddhist sects from neighboring places with Myanmarese nationalist from Pangsau Pass attended the 3-day religious event with great devotion and enthusiasm.
The specialty of the 3 day event was the offering of overnight weaved robes by women folks with offering of other materials to express their gratitude to Bhikkhu Sanghas. The weaving of the robes that started in evening ended early in next morning. The ordeal for weaving the robe lasted for more than 11 hours.
Terming his visit to Rima village as most memorable, the DC W.Khimhun expressed his gratefulness to the celebration committee for making him part of the most auspicious occasion. Referring to the teaching of Lord Buddha on non-violence and peace, he called upon all to have compassionate feeling for nature and wildlife and termed Buddha’s philosophy and description as an encompass of all.
Khimhun said that as people around the globe is on war and killing each other and intolerance for other religion over the days has risen, the teachings of Buddha is that’s why more relevant and of utmost importance in today’s time for peace and non violence.
He urged all to do good for others and practice teachings of Buddha practically in life.
Speaking about the memorandum submitted on construction of boundary wall around Ashoka Vihara by the celebration committee, the DC committed to provide all possible assistance beginning from this year onward before concluding his speech for well being of entire people around the globe.
ZPC Marina Kenglang termed the Buddhist religion as one of the most prominent religion along with other major religion in the world and said that Buddha is known by all for his liberal thinking with non violence and world peace.
India during the time of cold-war, policies framed out and adopted were in accordance to the teaching of Buddha which led India towards the path of developed nation, said Kenglang.
Requesting the celebration committee, Kenglang urged for more exposure of women in national and international level workshop on Buddhism and to encourage people of the area for offering prayers on their own local dialects.
Delivering his discourse, headmonk of Namsai Paryati Sassana Buddha Vihara Venerable Bhikkhu Aggadhamma highlighted on the significance of conducting such auspicious occasion in the area and to follow the eight fold paths of Buddha.
Others who spoke included a Senior Teacher from Assam Gouri Bhadra Shyam, Former Director AIR C.M.Manlai and former ADC W.Tikhak.
The event also included chanting for world peace by all Bhikkhu Sangha.
Other attraction of the days included Khamsin-thom-tra (manglacharan), Tripitika pathana chanting, hoisting of world Buddhist flag, Dhamma discourse, colourful procession, opening of kathina civara weaving centre, quiz competition on life of Buddha, colourful cultural programme, illumination of candle, Anekkacha (Buddhabhisheka), acceptance of Pancha-sila (Dhamma Savanang) and releasing of hot air balloon.
