Top lawyers, tea planers, bureaucrats and social activists are rubbing their shoulders in Guwahati when the premier north eastern city is hosting a national seminar on the implementation of a vital law by the tea planters.
Jointly organized by National Law University in Assam and the Assam government on November 14 and 15 at the Administrative Staff College in Khanapara, the seminar is expected discuss in detail a slew of measures to protect child rights in the tea plantation industry in the tea rich north eastern state.
To be participated by all relevant stakeholders from Assam along with Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and West Bengal, the conference will develop a shared understanding of the provisions relating to children in The Plantation Labour Act, 1951.
The two day event is expected to discuss the issues and challenges faced by key stakeholders in realizing the rights of the child as provided under the PLA, 1951.
The experts in the conference are set to prepare some recommendations for better implementation and amendment of the PlantationAct, 1951.
