The Churachandpur Joint Action Committee thanked P A Sangma, Neiphiu Rio, Lalthanhawla, T. R Zaliang for throwing their weights behind the tribal agitators in Manipur who will have to bear the brunt of the controversial bills if cleared by the Centre.

In a statement, JAC said that the tribal leaders of their stature acknowledging the plight of the underprivileged people and the standing up for the cause of tribal unity in realizing the dream of self-governance within the purview of the Indian Constitution.

 According to JAC, Sangma, Rio, Lalthanhawla and Zaliang are the need of the hour to fight against the implementation of the three infamous bills which are intended to curtail the rights of tribals in Manipur.

3 hurt in Imphal blast

Three people were injured when a powerful IED exploded in Imphal East’s Khurai Ahongei around 10:30 am Monday. The injured are W Ibomcha Singh, 53, resident of Khurai Soibam Leikai, Md Ahamda, 43, resident of Khurai Ahongei and Md Shahid, 35, resident of Yairipok. Swine flu case detected in Imphal West

One case of pandemic influenza A H1N1, also known as swine flu has been detected in Imphal West.  Health Minister L Jayantakumar on Saturday officially confirmed the swine flu case during a press conference at the Old Secretariat conference hall.  He said a 45-year-old man, who has been admitted to Shija Hospital, Langol since July 4, is now a confirmed case of swine flu after a series of necessary tests. 49 sickened by ‘unknown illness’ in Churachandpur

An unknown illness appeared to spread in the district as many as 49 people including children have reported becoming sick after an illness at the interior village of V Sinai on Monday.  They were admitted to the district hospital for treatment. Volunteers of the Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL) rushed them to the hospital by an ambulance. Authorities said the patients hailing from V Sinai near Patlen were having flu-like symptoms. They said some 49 people have been brought to Churachandpur District Hospital after they fell ill due to an “unknown illness.”

Drug peddlers, users held at Moreh

 In a drug drive, a team of police led by Tengnoupal Superintendent of Police Dr S Ibomcha arrested four drug peddlers, including two women and 15 drug users yesterday. The drive was carried out at Moreh Ward No.4. The four drug peddlers were caught with 4 gm of heroin, 240 pieces of WY tablets, 320 of other intoxicant tablets and seven bottles of WY. The arrested were identified as H Shamo, resident of Moreh Ward No.4, Dimmu Mandim and Khaipou Zou, both residents of MOreh Ward No.2 and L Bishe, resident of Moreh Ward No.5. According to police, investigation has revealed that the arrested are mostly hailing from Neighbouring Myanmar.
