Major fire in Golaghat town

Four buildings were reduced to ashes when a devastating fire broke out in the heart of the Golaghat town on Friday. Originated from a lamp at a prayer room at a residential building at Court Road in the afternoon, the fire rapidly spread to three adjacent houses belonging to Narayan Ghosh, Ajay Ghosh, Govind Ghosh and Ranjit Ghosh. All they deal in clothes.

Local residents helped them managed to recover some clothes they stored for the Durga puja shopping. But belongings worth lakhs of rupees were ravaged. Fire tenders took it nearly three hours to bring the situation under control. Local residents blamed the fire tenders for late response. They said that the extent of loss could have been minimized had the fire tenders arrived in time.
