Farmers from Kokrajhar and Chirang district expressed their flayed over Assam Agriculture Minister Rakibul Hussain and government's decision not to procure of locally made potato seeds during the ongoing dry crops across the state.
Over 25 farmers from Kokrajhar and Chirang district gathered at Agriculture Guest House on Thursday in Kokrajhar and protested government's decision for not procuring locally production of potato seeds.
Farmers from the districts produced 10 thousand quintiles of Potato seeds through Potato Seed Production Scheme during 2014-15 under R astray Krishi Vikash Yojana 2014-15 targeting 75 hectors of crops land, which are being stored in Cool Storage in Kajalgaon of Chirang district, but now concern Agriculture department has been directed to procurement of potato seeds from other states like West Bengal, Punjab depriving local farmers, said Uma Rani Brahma, president of Maynao Agro Farming.
She alleged that state govt had instructed to produce Potato seeds in us locally site, but now concern department and govt has been denying to procurement of seeds.
They (farmers) warned for dropping of seeds to the national highway and blockade trucks that carry potato seeds from other states if their seeds are not procured by govt at the season.
