Demo for ST status for Ahoms

Hundreds of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad leaders and workers staged demonstration in Tinsukia demanding immediate ST status for the Tai Ahom community.

Talking to Assam Times, the protestors said that the government promised ST status before the election. But during the last one and a half year has passed. But the things refused to proceed forcing them to take resort to the dharna.

They further threatened a massive strike in near future if the Ahoms are denied ST status before the next assembly polls early next year.
