Mohilary listens to partymen

BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary on Saturday openly and closely talked to the partymen at the grassroot level in two places in BTAD areas and asked them to strengthen the party ahead of the Assam Assembly elections early next year.

Mohilary, on Saturday hold party meeting with primary member and party workers from grassroots at Aflagaon, Diplai in Banargaon and Bhaukungri blocks and closely listened to them about the problems. He was flanked by BTC executive members Rajib Brahma, Doneswar Goyary along with party leaders of Banargaon block

Atrocity on minority in Margherita?

MARGHERITA: Tension refuses to die down in Margherita area in Tinsukia area on Thursday after a group of people allegedly forced a couple to strip off in full view of their children.The bizarre incident took place at No 1 Longtong near Lekhapani on Tuesday night when a group of people comprising Nabo Bora, Chandu Jaiswal and Dipak Mahato came to the house of Mohammed Jalil and forced him and his wife to strip off and asked them to convert to Hinduism if they want to stay in Assam.

The next day acting on their complaintthe Lekhapani Police Station registered Case Number 119/17  IPC 448,153(A),354,504,506 and 34. The investigation is going on.Meanwhile, Abdul Rehman President of Jamiat Ulema E Hind Tinsukia district Committee have slammed and criticized the incident and demanded immediate arrest of the people. Minority leader of Margherita Toufik Khan said these people have not been caring not even an iota so long as BJP led Governments are existing in Delhi and Dispur.

Budget: Mix bag of pleasure and discomfort for budget

For Assam, there is a mixed bag of comfort and displeasure in the Union Budget tabled by finance minister P Chidambaram on Friday. Some people say it’s a fantastic while for others it’s an election budget which in no way help Assam.

Speaking to reporters, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said the Budget is a big respite for the common people and he thanked UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Finance minister P Chidambaram for a hike of Rs 2,000 crore for the north eastern region.

On the other hand, noted economist Dr Jayanta Madhab said it’s all about election. He wondered how the finance minister will be able to relief the farmers across the state with the huge Rs 60,000 crore. He said the relief would be helpful for the central and western Indian farmers and not their eastern and north eastern counterparts. He also said there is no specified way in the budget how the package will be implemented.

FINER also welcomed the budget saying it will be help the north eastern region with the increased allocation.
BJP and Asom Gana Parishad also criticized the budget saying it a poll gimmick.

Another ACS officer arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The second huge crackdown against the officers in question in the APSC scam gathers steam as the police have caught yet another ACS officer in Guwahati hours after arresting five others.

The police have arrested ACS officer Joydev Mahanta from Panbazar area in Guwahati in the afternoon hours after they picked up five others from different places in this connection.

They include Nalbari tax inspector Barnali Devi, Mancachar based IRBN DSP Kaushik Kalita, Dhakuwakhana Circle officer Rhituraj Gogoi, Majuli assistant employment officer S Sarkar and Rangiya excise inspector Abhisekh Borbora.

All they appeared in the handwriting test conducted by the investigators two months back. Sources said a few others are likely to be arrested soon.

“We can't disclose anything now. On the basis of forensic report we are proceeding. More officers who ensured recruitment this way would be arrested,”said a senior police officer.

The special operation unit led by Dibrugarh additional SP SS Panesar has already arrested 33 people including APSC chairman Rakesh Paul in this connection.
