Elephant calf rescued in Golaghat

Local residents in Thuramukh area in Golaghat heaved a sigh of relief after they managed to ensure the safe rescue of an elephant calf from a deep drain on Thursday. 

Talking to Assam Times local residents said that the calf was trapped in the drain in Thuramukh tea garden when it as accompanying a herd of wild elephant who came down to the area in search of food in the morning.

Initially, the full grown elephants tried to rescue the calf. But of no avail. Then the entire herd left the place. As the calf started screaming, villagers in large number came to its rescue safely. Then a team of forest officials and veterinary doctors arrived in the spot and released the animal after necessary treatment. 

The incident took place a day after a full grown wild elephant died a sudden death in the district when it was moving in search of food.
