Tejaswi kicks off in Golaghat

The health and family welfare department and National Health Mission in Golaghat jointly launched the mission Tejaswi has started in the district on Saturday.

The scheme to remove anaemia was launched by joint director for health and family welfare, Dr AK Borthakur where on Saturdays and Wednesdays in October, the children and pregnant women would get iron syrups and tablets. He said special measures would be taken to cover the remote and backward areas of the district.

Protect indigenous people: Anup Chetia

ULFA general secretary Anup Chetiya has urged the government to ensure safety and security of the indigenous people in the state.

Addressing a public convention in Kojrajhar on Wednesday, the former rebel blamed it all on the population explosion of the  immigrants which have been a threat to the indigenous lot.

He said the state should be free from illegal infiltration to make healthy developed and integrity and  has urged both state and centre governements to take steps to check illegal infiltration in the state.

BTAD chief Hagrama Mohilary said that BTAD administration was working all round development in the region. He said that peace and unity among all sections of communities must be prevailed to make more development and growth with healthy environment.

Lawrence Islary,ABSU general secretary,Hiteswar Barman,AKRSU president,Birsing Munda,BCF leader were prominent attendees on the occasion.

Flood woes in Goalpara

Flash flood have started wreaking havoc in Goalpara district displacing thousands of people during the last couple of days.

The major rivers in the district have been overflowing following the heavy downpour in Meghalaya and the surging waters have inundated a huge area in the lower Assam district where thousands of people in several villages have been affected. The situation is expected to take a grim turn if the rains refuse to halt.

AICC finalizing poll candidates

AICC poll panel is holding a close door meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to clear the list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier, the screening committee has prepared the list and sent to the party’s poll panel for approval.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is leaving for the capital on Thursday to attend the meeting.

The list is expected to be announced on Monday or Tuesday.
