Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4

A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state. 

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

VCDC chairman arrested

Police arrested former chairman and a member of Habrubari Village Council Development Committee(VCDC) under Serfanguri police station following allegations of Jobcard anomalies under MGNREGA schemes in Kokrajhar district.The police arrested Andreyo Jwhwlao Hazoary,former chairman and Tarani Roy,member of Habrubari VCDC on Tuesday under FIR registered number 61/12015 at Serfanguri police station that filed under 420/471/409/34 IPC in May last.The arrested duo were produced to CJM court and sent to 14 days judicial custody in Kokrajhar,said a senior police officer.

ABSU withdrew dharna

The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has withdrew its scheduled 2-hour dharna programme to be held on June 18 in every district and sub-division offices on demand of Bodo form for NRC updating in the state on the basis of the information obtained from deputy commissioner(DC),Kokrajhar that government is going to publish and issue the NRC application forms in Bodo languages which is in process.Speaking the reporters at Bodofa House today in Kokrajhar, Lawrence Islary,general secretary of the ABSU expressed its serious concern over the NRC Bodo application form issue and demanded early publication of application form in Bodo language and held proper implementation of the NRC updation.He said...

Sal logs seized

ecurity firces belonging to Police and CRPF Cobra team seized a truck carrying illegal Sal logs from Alangi area under Kokrajgar police ststion of  Kokrajhar district today.The truck bearing registration number  AS-01A 7434 carrying Sal logs was on way to Kalgachia in Barpeta from Athiabari in Kokrajhar district when it was seized by the joint team.Four persons were arrested along with the truck. They have been identified as Mohd Sukur Ali, Ismail Ali of Sorbhog Jamadarguri , Barpeta, Binamin Rabha and Dhananjay Rabha, both of Serfanguri Prem Nagar, Kokrajhar.A senior forest official in Haltugaon Division said the sal worth around 10 lakhs rupees in market.

Assam bandh call by Bengali federation affected

Assam bandh partial in BTAD

Normal life remained partially disrupted under the impact of the 12 hours Assam bandh called by BTAD Bengali Youth Students Federation and Assam Bengali Youth Students Federation on Wednesday alleging harassment to Hindu Bengalies in the name of steps to update NRC. The bandh started from  5 in the morning where roads remained bare in some places in BTAD. Shops and markets and schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed.The students federation alleged that the government has been creating unleashing disturbances among the Hindu Bengalies in the name of updating the NRC.

Teak logs seized in Kokrajhar

Security forces seized a truck carrying smuggled teak logs from Alangi area under Kokrajgar police station on Wednesday.The consignment was intercepted from a truck bearing No AS-01A 7434 as it was on way to Kalgachia in Barpeta from Athiabari in Kokrajhar.Police arrested four persons in this connection. Three arrested

Kokrajhar police arrested three money snatchers from Kokrajhar SBI complex today while they were tried to snatch money from a banker.According to police,three persons hailed Darjeeling of West Bengal state were arrested when they tried to snatched  money from a banker who coming out from SBI after drawing money from bank.They followed the SBI complex in Kokrajhar town on day brought light.The arrested were identified as Ashok Das,Aman Shah and Kiteo Das,hailed from Darjeeling.

Stop harassment to Bengali Hindus

Janajati mancha opposes ST proposal

Delegate session of AAMSU

A new executive committee of All Assam Minority Students Union ( AAMSU)of Kokrajhar district unit was formed with Anowar Hussain as president at a delegate meeting of the committee held at Bhowaraguri community hall on Monday in Kokrajhar. The committee get Kairul Ali Hussain as general secretary along with 31 executive members for two years terms. The students union hold its delegate session with daylong programme scheduled where discussed on various issues of social upliftment.
