A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state. 

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

NDFB militant killed in encounter

In a fierce gun battle, a hardcore NDFB (S) cadre was killed at Auzar Guri under Serfanguri Police Station in Kokrajhar district today. The National Democratic Front of Boroland(Songbijit faction) said that a hardcore member of NDFB(S) was killed and two others were apprehended in Parbatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar district on Sunday in a joint operation of Police and Army was unfounded and fake. Militant killed, 2 others apprehended

A hardcore terrorist of NDFB (Songbijit faction) was killed and two others were apprehended in Parbatjhora subdivision of Kokrajhar district on Sunday in a joint operation by Army of Red Horns Division and Assam Police.  Based on tiptop information about presence of 5-6 NDFB terrorists near Gopaljhora village under Bagribari police station in Kokrajhar, Army camp Basbari launched a joint search operation in the area along with Kokrajhar police at 2.30 pm on Sunday when incessant fire from a jungle and saw 7-8 suspected terrorists running away. RMC will contest BTC election

The Religious Minority Council (RMC), BTC Region on Sunday said that they would contest the next BTC election scheduled next year by putting candidates in 10 constituencies - five are open for all and five are reserved for general. Man run over by train

A man was run over by train at West point of Kokrajhar railway station this noon in Kokrajhar. The body was run over by a down train this noon around 11.30 am which identified as Krishna Biswas(20) of  Magistrate Colony, ward no.9 in Kokrajhar town.Kokrajhar GRPF recovered the body in presence of magistrate and sent for postmortem,said a GRPF official.
