Manipur Governor Dr Syed Ahmad passed away on Sunday at 12.45 hours at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai due to illness.  He was 75.

Tremor shakes Manipur again

A 4 magnitude earthquake no less struck panic in the northeastern state of Manipur on Friday. Originated in Ukhrul, the tremor was felt across the state at 10.04 in the evening forcing many people in the high rise buildings to come down to the open space. “As I was watching television, suddenly I came to feel the jolt as the clock struck at 10.4 in the evening. Then I switched off the light and cams out of my house to the open space,” said Rasin Devi, a local resident of Imphal.

Manipur: NH-2 remains cut off after landslide

A major landslide near Karong of the district has cut off Manipur’s supply-line through Nagaland. Torrential rain has hit normal life in most parts of Senapati. Flash floods and landslides wreaked havoc in the hill district where standing crops in large tracks of paddy fields were damaged in the past few days. Traffic movement is now unsafe on the landslide-prone National Highway 2, Imphal-Dimapur route after the landlside near Karong, an official report said on Thursday. Air ambulance in Manipur soon

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has sanctioned Rs 25 crore to introduce air ambulance service in remote locations of Manipur, Governor Dr Najma Heptulla has said. Interacting with media persons at the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, the Manipur Governor Dr Najma said the amount was sanctioned by the DoNER Ministry after she personally moved the proposal in a recent meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC). “Discussions are on to decide the proposed air medical service delivery model in the state,” the Governor said. Internecine clashes between UTLA groups leave 3 dead

Three militants, including one woman, belonging to the SK Thadou group of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) were killed when a gun fight erupted with a group of militants suspected to be that of UTLA (Poukhai) at Muktakhal village within Jiribam district in the wee hours of Sunday.   According to a report, the encounter happened around 12:30 am. Police commandos threaten student leaders by gun
