CIT students staged sit-in protest

Hundreds of students of Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar carrying placards and shouting slogans staged the sit-in dharna and refuse to sit in the examination at the main entrance and did not allow the faculty members to enter the institute in protest against non supply of electricity in the hostels since last two days. The exam was to start from 10 am today but was forced to cancel after the students refused to sit-in the exam.

The students stated that since there was no electricity since Tuesday last there were shortage of water in the two hostels- Sujit Narzary and Sikhna Jwhwlao – leaving them helpless besides they could not prepare for the exam.

The students said though they compliant to the authority concern, no steps were taken to address the problems of the students. The electricity was restored only last evening.

The Institute Officiating Director Debkumar Chakraborty nor the Registrar Chaitali Brahma(she was stated to be out of station for official work) nor the internal academic committee member secretary Anjalu Albis Basumatary , examination superintendent Jibon Krishna Kaklary  were present today, much to the anger of the students.

A senior faculty member said they have informed the Director about the flight of the students and their demands but refused to come and talk to the students making the situation more critical.

The authority said the electrify supply was disrupted for a day due to shifting work of the generators attached to the two hostels but restored by 5 pm yesterday.

The demands of the students includes permanent Directorate, proper functioning of training and placement cell and quality food etc.

Sensation prevails in Chirang district hours after four people sustained injury in miscreant attack forcing police to step up investigation. The incident took place at Dhaligaon where unidentified miscreants attacked a group of people in the evening.
